pwSafe - Password Safe App Reviews

A solid and secure password management app!

I’ve been a long time user of the popular Password Safe and required seamless compatibility in a OS X application. I’ve used pwSafe on my MacBook Pro for over a year and it has been reliable and a joy to work with. I recommend to anyone looking for a straightforward and secure password manager.

Latest update was deadly...

I’ve been using pwSafe reliably for seven years, and the most recent update completely destroyed any hint of functionality—it crashes every time I try to open the same database file I’ve been using forever. And, from the looks of this review section, I’m not the only one having this problem. Fix it, App77!

Keeps My Family in Sync - Great

Update: Still going strong and my kids have starting taking password management more seriously. Really happy with this application. Easy to use; simple interface; functional not flashy; it just works. I have actually gotten more extensive use out of it that the friend that originally recomended it. I have it installed on my macbook; iMac, my iphone and my wifes iphone. I link the them through a shared drop box safe/file/folder; its really worked great. I’ve migrated away from the horrible printed sheet of paper when is terrible security & sometimes is hard to find where the last person left it (doesn’t everyone put it on the refrigerator?). If you don’t have a password manager; then you should get one and I have been very happy with pwSafe. Although they have not always given me the answer i hoped for, technical support has been always been responsive to my questions. A feature, as I see it, people should know about and consider is the ability to print out a hard copy of the entire safe. You wouldn’t want to leave it laying around; BUT I do periodically print one off and put it in my bank lock box with other important documents (like my will). I suppose I could just leave a copy of my safe & its PW around but it kinda cuts to the chase if anything ever happened to me or my wife (morbid I know; but “be prepared”). The only issue I have experienced is when I opened it on multiple machines simultaneously and there are save conflicts when the separate running machines save the file. It happens infrequently and most of the time the program even resolves it. I would expect the same, and have experienced it, with other programs too so it’s not really a flaw just a fact of life.

Crashes on 10.9.5, but works fine on El Capitan

I’ve been a loyal user of this previously fantastic software for many years. Now, it crashes every time I try to open it. Exception Type: EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION (SIGILL) Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000001, 0x0000000000000000 UPDATE: I’ve upgraded to El Capitan and it works great once again. This is a great app, simple to use, and allows me to manage passwords across the board. The UI is not elegant, but is clear and intuitive.

Latest Version does not work!

Been using this application for years. Just upgraded to latest version and now it no longer works. Crashes every time. Even after I rebooted my MacBook Pro.

pwSafe is the best!!!!!!

PWSafe is one of the best, stable, most reliable, and easy to use apps I have on either my Mac or iPhone. I don’t know what I would do if I had to go back to memorizing all of my passwords or carrying them in a diary.

Great, secure product, great support

Easy to use, secure, stable product. Sync with smart phone. Great support. Had issue with one release and emailed support. I had a temporary fix within a few hours and they notified me days later when the temporary fix was included in an official release. Hard to find that kind of follow-up these days.

Great app and customer support!

They fixed the Mavericks problem quickly and it remains a stable, capable password app that is easy to use. Helps keep my sanity intact and my accesses secure.

Version 4.8 fixes issues with iCloud and Mac OS X 10.9

Upgraded to the latest version (4.6) this morning and the app crashes when trying to open an existing safe or create a new safe. Bug report has been sent to both Apple and App 77 Informatica e Servicios. Update 12/7/2015 - After contacting the developer about the issues with 4.6, I received an email telling me where to download a temporary fix (4.7) - which worked but didn’t work with iCloud. I received another email telling me that version 4.8 was available on the App Store - downloaded it and everything is back to normal. I appreciate the quick response from the developer and am completely happy with pwSafe.

Use it everyday and I love it.

I depend on this application daily. $15 is a small price to pay given the benefits; it has made my digital life more secure without complicating it.

Couldn’t live without it

With the dropbox support I get secure password storage shared between all the platforms I use; OS X, iOS, Linux, and Windows. Never had a problem (tho I don’t use the fancier autofill features anywhere.)

Dependable Password Manager, works seamlessly across OSX and iOS

I’ve been using this app on my iPhone and Mac for years, and it’s never left me hanging. Works great across iOS and OS X via iCloud. Dependable.

pwSafe

This app is terrible. Difficult and confusing to use. Don’t waste your money.

Not for Apple products!!!

After using this ap for a month or so, it has been dropped from my Mac and I can’t open it and I have been unable to get any support from the company either. I also could never get it to sync with my iphone and ipad. What a waste of time and money!!!!

The Best Password Manager In the App Store

Password Safe is absolutely the best p/w app in the app store. It has just the right number of features without becoming bogged down in “feature creep” — perfect for average joes like me. It is easy to use and the help manual couldn’t be any easier or more intuitive to understand. Best of all, this app is very well put together by a very talented developer who constantly maintains it — unlike some of the “abandonware” that can be found throughout the app store including the password apps section. The developer is very responsive, helpful, friendly, and prompt to respond to customer questions/concerns as I recently found out when e-mailing him about a problem I was experiencing. I sent the e-mail late on a Sunday evening and by Monday morning I had received a reply. The developer not only fixed the problem for me, but he also instructed me what to do if I ever encountered that problem again! Given such dedication and professionalism, not to mention a perfectly working app, I consider this to be the best app in the store and well worth the money.

Trusted, good interface, Touch ID and iCloud connected

Very pleased with this app. Trusted security. Decent interface with good use of both iPhone Touch ID and iCould storage. Its very convenient to open the app both on the laptop and the iPhone to access the same data. Worth the purchase price.

Spectacular Application

pwSafe is an EXCELLENT app. Wonderfully secure as it’s based on the open source Password Safe program by Bruce Schneier. The developer is incredably responsve and fixes issues quickly. I LOVE the Safari plugin. The ONLY thing I can ask for is a plugin for Firefox.

Does what it says!

I’ve been using PWSafe for a couple of years. It has been dependable, and the ability to (via iCloud) have my safe on both my Mac and my IOS devices is extremely helpful. “It just works”, and that’s so refreshing given the state of much software these days. Of course, since I don’t believe in having only one copy of something as valuable to me as my password vault, I keep a backup of it on my Mac as a local file as well. The rare couple of times I’ve had questions, the support folks (esp Jorge) at App77 have been very responsive and helpful.

Have used for several years and still the best

I use it so my passwords are safe and synched across my iphone, ipad and mac. Love it.

Seems to be stable now, worries are fewer

Recent versions are much more stable with iCloud, I have not had issues with the most recent version. A couple older versions had severe data loss issues with iCloud, and I had to give the app a low rating. It seems as though they have wporked out the kinks? This app is nice as it syncs with all my iOS devices and all of my Macs and the safe files are even compatible with PasswordSafe on Windows.
